Our 2025 “Lake Academy” happened last week. LakeSource employees from the tri-state area came into the headquarters to learn from industry leaders and compete for a first place team prize in this two day training event. Our goal is to preserve, promote and protect aquatic resources! This continued education propels us as a leader in the industry. Big thanks to @stewardsofwater and @nutriensolvm for sharing their time and knowledge!

Here’s a good one for you! This pond experienced an over abundance of diatoms, which are a single celled algae. This over population of diatoms not only caused a brown muddy appearance of the water, but it also depleted the oxygen levels, causing a fish kill. The first step of many, was to reduce the sunlight available with a non toxic pond dye. Next, we will control the over abundance of nutrients fueling this diatom bloom.

Even the smallest stormwater ponds can bring the biggest challenges — like this one in Ocean View, Delaware.
It took every trick in the water quality manager’s playbook, but thanks to our dedicated team of biologists and the right combination of technology, this pond is now back in a healthy state. Check the after photo
Now all we need is a little help from Mother Nature in the form of rain!

Some great shots by the local press of aquatic specialist Austin Rafter applying precision herbicide treatments for invasive water chestnut in a dense growth of native lotus. It takes skill and patience to find these invasive hiding underneath the native lotus plants, but that’s what we train for!

They said it couldn’t be done…so we did it! This HOA in Lewes DE struggled to get anything to grow in their stormwater basins. We tested soil, came up with a plan and executed! First photo is from March 2025 and second photo is a few days ago July 2025.
Stormwater basins do not need to be the eyesore of the community. Find out how you can brighten these facilities with native flowers and plants by giving us a call at 833-800-5253.

“Without strategic and critical partnerships like these, between government agencies and private sector pond and lake management companies, invasive water chestnut can quickly spread throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed and cause ecological and economic harm” - Chris Fish, Aquatic Biologist and Owner of LakeSource LLC.
We are grateful and humbled to be chosen by the army corps of engineers as the aquatic specialist for eradicating invasive water chestnut from a large lake in Virginia.

Only a few short weeks ago, this City Park Pond was nearly 100% covered in invasive weeds and algae. Our team of biologist quickly strategized a solution, and today we effectively installed this aerating fountain in clean healthy water! We will continue to maintain the water quality for the community and wildlife to enjoy.

Recently, our founder and owner, Chris Fish, had the pleasure of attending a career day. His goal was to inspire the next generation to become stewards of our environment, especially our planet’s most vital resource: water.
Here’s to the young people who will inherit this responsibility. May you pass our planet on to the generations that follow in even better condition than it was entrusted to you.

“Invasive plant species pose a significant threat to ecosystems, often overpowering native biodiversity. Among these, shoreline/wetland plants like phragmites grow densely, obstructing water views and dominating native wetland grasses. By engaging with LakeSource Aquatic Habitat Management’s Shoreline Management program, you ensure that your shoreline remains not only aesthetically pleasing but also ecologically sound.”

Although it doesn’t feel like it, winter is coming! Our team is busy winterizing fountains and aeration systems for our clients. Check out the great before and after shots of cleaning the algae buildup off a pair of units. Winterization is more than just protecting from freeze damage. These units should be cleaned up once a year to prevent biofilm buildup.
Recently, a few members of our team made the trip to @kasco_marine headquarters in Wisconsin to further their training and learn about new products and technology in the aeration system and pond fountain industry! We are always looking for ways to stay at the top of our field, so we can provide the excellent service our customers expect!
Once a year mowing of a pond buffer is a best management practice for discouraging nuisance and invasive plants species, well encouraging desirable vegetation growth. Our remote control slope mower allows us to easily and safely access dangerous slopes at the press of a button!

Large submersed aeration system install today for a local nursery. This nursery struggles with harmful algae blooms in their irrigation pond, and we are glad to be a part of restoring their water quality. Over 4000 feet of airline was spread today between two ponds. Thankfully, we have an experienced crew and the right equipment to knock it out in a half a day.

Check out these shots from some of our pond management accounts! The first photo is an example of a mature native pond buffer installed by LakeSource. Buffers are a Best Management Practice for ponds as they slow the momentum of stormwater and uptake nutrients all while providing habitat and forage for wildlife and pollinators. The next picture is an example of a brand new stormwater pond that is just being filled. Our team installed native wetland plants that will help stabilize the shoreline and reduce nutrients and algae growth!

Project Spotlight! 🔦 our team installed over 2000 plugs of a variety of native species for a customers newly dug pond. These species will create a thriving native ecosystem, providing forage for pollinators and waterfowl, as well as increase water quality and erosion control. We still have about another thousand plugs to go on this one!

This pond owner had their entire 4 acre pond lined in riprap stone. After partnering with LakeSource the property owner realized the benefits of a native, living shoreline. Riprap stone was removed and native plants were installed. Now, local pollinators thrive, the juvenile fish have protective habitat, and the shoreline is protected from erosion in a much longer lifespan than of riprap. Call today to get your water body to thrive to its full potential! 833.800.LAKE.

It’s fountain winterization season! The Lake team is hard at work removing, inspecting and cleaning our customers units. Winterization is not only important to avoid costly freeze damage but gives our crew a chance to clean the unit like new again, and inspect/replace important worn or missing hardware!
Detention ponds or “dry ponds” need love too! Our crew knocked this yearly maintenance out of the park for a local community. A best management practice (BMP) is mowing the basin 1x or 2x a year. This allows maximum root and seed structure of the plants, aiding in stormwater pollution cycling and habitat enhancement for local wildlife. All while keeping your stormwater system in compliance with county regulations! If left ignored, tress and invasive plants will quickly invade the system and put your community out of compliance with your county. Find out more about BMPs for your stormwater basins by calling LakeSource!

While often overlooked by pond owners, supplemental feeding is the key to sustaining a healthy bluegill population. What do heathy, big bluegill, equate to? Increased size in your largemouth bass of course! Floating fish food pellets are not the only thing your fish will eat. Think of it as extra protein. Then think of a body builder trying to maximize his/her size and strength without a protein shake!
Fall is a critical time of year to make sure your fish have enough to eat, as they are preparing their bodies for winter. Call LakeSource to bring your pond from average to a true trophy fishery!
The future is now! Our team completed this solar powered fountain install today for a local golf course where it was not feasible to run electric to the pond! Have you always wanted to add an aerator or fountain to your pond but not sure where to start? We are your SOURCE for pond and lake solutions! …..
